Texas Roofing Conference (RCAT), Grapevine, October 21 to 23

The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas holds its 51st annual conference at the Gaylord Texan Resort in Grapevine. It is the Texas industry's own show: residential and commercial roofers, manufacturers, distributors, software and service vendors, with RCAT reporting more than 150 exhibitors. The expo floor is free to registered attendees and runs alongside education sessions and the RCAT licensing program, which is the closest thing Texas has to a roofing credential. If you only go to one roofing event in Texas this year and you are not a storm-restoration company, this is it. Distributor and manufacturer reps are the people to meet; they know which roofers in your area are growing and why.

Win The Storm, Dallas, October 28 to 30

The storm restoration show, at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center downtown. The vendor floor leans toward claims work: hail maps, supplementing, financing, lead vendors, coaching and marketing agencies. The Thursday main stage and panels are where the top of the market says what it is doing. We wrote a separate guide on what to bring home from it and the Dallas claims market you are walking into.

PestWorld, Grapevine, October 20 to 23

Not a roofing show, but it is at the Gaylord Texan the same week as RCAT, and the hotel will be full of home service owners. If you also run or partner with a pest control company, the two shows are one trip. Separate guide linked above.

Service World Expo, Las Vegas, November 9 to 11

The home services business conference for HVAC, plumbing, electrical and increasingly roofing owners, at Caesars Forum. The content is business-side: pricing, recruiting, sales process, marketing. Expensive relative to the Texas events once travel is counted, and worth it mainly for owners already past the point where the trade show floor teaches them anything.

RoofCON, Oklahoma City, November 10 to 12

RoofCON 8 is at the Oklahoma City Convention Center, a drive from North Texas. It is a sales-and-growth conference for roofing and solar companies, heavy on main-stage speakers and coaching programs. It overlaps Service World almost exactly, so most owners choose one.

The questions that are the same at every booth

Marketing vendors will be at every one of these events, and the questions that sort them do not change:

1. Do you report signed jobs or leads?
2. Do I own the ad accounts if I leave?
3. Do you also work for my competitor in the same service area?
4. Can I hear a recorded call from one of your current clients' leads?
5. What happens in the first five minutes after a lead arrives, and who does it?

An agency that answers all five without flinching is rare on a trade show floor.

What to bring

Your own numbers. Cost per signed job by channel for the last ninety days, your answer rate, and your inspection-to-signed rate. Every vendor on the floor is going to make a claim about one of those three. Having the real number in your pocket turns a pitch into a comparison.
